It Isn't. Until It Is.

My work is rooted in an intuitive lineage with Paul Jenkins, Jackson Pollock and Jean Arp, three artists who have profoundly transformed my perception of pictorial gesture.
From Paul Jenkins I learned to listen to colour, to let it breathe and vibrate until it becomes interior space. Painting becomes a dialogue between control and surrender, a way of welcoming what water and pigment decide for themselves: transparency, fluidity, light, movement.
In Jackson Pollock's paintings I remember above all density and physical force. Matter thickens, unfolds, accumulates until it forms a living relief. Each trace preserves the artist’s gesture, intensity and vital breath. The surface becomes a territory, a field of energy rather than a representation.
In Jean Arp I find the silent part of the work: balance and the right form. His compositions, at once measured and organic, inspire a search for a natural order in which each element finds its place without apparent constraint. Harmony does not impose itself; it reveals itself.
From these three influences the series It Isn’t Until It Is was born in 2021, paintings where the fluid and the dense coexist, where light circulates through the thickness of the paint, and where the gesture seeks less to represent than to let things occur.

From the mineral night, from lava flows, from the dark oceans emerge the first chemistries of life, quietly taking shape in chance configurations. Gradually, structures stabilise, membranes develop, elementary organisms learn to capture energy. Deep green pigments of the first photosynthetic organisms appear with yellows, reds, purples and deep blues. Then the palette is further diversified: browns and blacks of melanins, but also structural colours born of micro-architectures that diffract light, up to the secret glows of bioluminescence in the depths.

From the darkness of the abyss to the most subtle and unsuspected iridescences, colour is the form that light takes when it becomes alive.
